In Bad Taste: The Cookie Dough Cafe Reviewed

Cookie dough is basically the sinful treat every baker nabs in the kitchen. Whether you will even admit it, we all sneak at least a finger-full of the raw concoction. But here to save the day, or so I thought, was a product from The Cookie Dough Cafe — safe and edible cookie dough in a jar! The idea is actually not a secret, and many tried-and-true recipes for the eggless dough can be found around the Internet already. And after a recent unsatisfactory experience with the company, the high prevalence of these other recipes lends to the reason why I easily will not give another penny to this company.

Customer service is not a difficult concept regardless of how new your company is. In fact, we all maintain some sort of customer service standards on a day-to-day basis. It’s called manners and respect. A company that doesn’t respect or listen to its paying customers doesn’t deserve mine or your patronage ever.

I had purchased my second tub of cookie dough from this company, and I had scooped some into a bowl when I got home. The chocolate chip dough variety is absolutely delicious, but unfortunately it’s taste is now tarnished by some unfortunate events. I came across a foreign object while eating the dough, and at first I really though it was a bandaid. Then I realized it was a piece of paper as if it had fallen from one of its ingredient packages during manufacturing. I went digging around in the tub and actually found yet another piece of this mystery paper. So I figured I’d let the company know via its Facebook page since I wanted them to see the visual proof of the object, and then they could perform measures to remedy this situation and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

I saw that whoever managed the Facebook account responded to all other posts on its page so I figured I had a good chance of someone seeing my issue. I didn’t ask for a refund, I didn’t ask for a coupon or free stuff, I wanted to let them know this was unacceptable. What if it had been a staple?

The next day, I realized my post had been deleted without me ever receiving a response. So I posted it again, and said I’d really like for them to fix this issue instead of ignoring me. My post was again deleted and I had been blocked from its Facebook page. I can longer post any sort of comment on the page whatsoever. At this point, I gave up giving them chances and told them I’d no longer patron the business.

I hope all businesses out there realize that sweeping problems under the rug will bring you more problems. And I will let my readers and everyone else know that your money is better spent elsewhere. In fact, I’m going to send you over in the direction of this blog for you to try making an edible cookie dough yourself. It is, after all, cheaper and you can make sure no slips of paper or staples make their way into your dough. 😉
